Paying My Last Respects

Yesterday the Seattle Supersonics’s mascot, Squatch, celebrated his 14th birthday. A good friend of mine knows the guy inside the costume and gut us tickets to sit in his suite at KeyArena. Such is the state of affairs of professional basketball in Seattle that the mascot gets his own suite.

The game was a stinker – the Supe’s only scored 31 points in the first half, and made less than 1/3rd of the shots they took. But it was fun to see all the mascots from other teams come in for the birthday bash. The best part of the evening took place when Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the United States of America (one of my favorite bands) took the stage and debuted the new Squatch theme song. It’s a little campy, but he wrote it overnight on short notice (a la Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein). Squatch played drums. We rocked out for 90 seconds then left the building. Should the Sonics end up moving out of town it would be a shame for the mascot's birthday to be my final experience with this local institution.

Mr. Fishpimp Goes to Town

When I was hired last year there were only two Account Execs in my office. One transfered to Arizona in July, the other just got promoted to GM of another branch. That means I am now the senior salesperson. Yikes! What's cool about that is I'm switching territories from Skagit & Whatcom counties, where I drive 600-800 miles a week, to Seattle, much closer to the Fishpimp homestead. As much as Seattle has changed and is now ruled by the insane, it's still my home town; it's where my people are. It's good to be home. Not to mention there is a lot more business out there than there is in places like Sedro Wooley & Sumas. Now all I have to do is go get it. Yeehaw!

AloooooooooHA!

The Fishpimps spent the holiday week in Hawaii at the in-laws condo on Maui. It took me over 30 years to finally visit the 50th state; I'm damned sure it won't take that long to get back. I figured it would be a lot of lying around on the beach eating poi & getting sunburned. No sir! We had no time to sit: there was snorkeling, whale-watching, fine-dining, rum-drinking, mountain hiking, and surfing to be done. That's right, the Fishpimp surfed. Without a lesson, even! (Photographic evidence is pending)

Speaking of photographic evidence, ckeck out my skills:
