Puerto Rican Cuisine

Posted by Picasa

Here's what qualifies as great seafood in Puerto Rico: Fried whole reef snapper and a huge lump of "mofongo", a starchy, flavorless mixture of mashed plantains, root veggies and meat.

Puerto Rico #3: Cost of Sporting Adjustment

We took in a Winter League baseball game the other night. These teams are equivilant to the American minor leagues that feed into MLB clubs. The product is very similar to an Everett Aquasox game. But check this out: for the $38 we would have spent on a just a single box seat for the Mariners along the 3rd base line we got two seats 5 rows behind home plate, 2 double pina coladas, a double gin & tonic, a sack of skittles & a bag of sunflower seeds.  Oh, and parking was just $2. Not a bad deal at all

Puerto Rico#2

Another observation: apparently the Puertoriquenos set off big-ass fireworks around Christmas. All the neighborhood dogs are howling in protest.

In other news: we locked ourselves out last night, but my slender sister-in-law punched in the bug screen and shimmied through the security shutters and let us in. Too bad the camera was in the car with a dead battery - it would have made a fantastic photo op.

Contrast.

It's 29 and snowing at home.

Puerto Rico #1

Here are my initial impressions of Puerto Rico:

*Despite being on an island, they're not into seafood.
*Beer selections are limited to Bud, Coors, Hienekin, and two local beers that taste like Bud.
*Most of the food is fried. Plantains are served with everything.
*The water is super-fantastic!
*I haven't seen any rum other than Bacardi and Don Ronrico.
*there are 25 radio stations and they all play Salsa.

The best laid plans...

I was supposed to ride along on a route today, but the snow has traffic paralized. The driver is stuck 15 miles south of town and is only moving at 5 feet per minute. So now I'm debating between going for coffee or just going home.
