Gladly Supporting the Local Economy

Since I got a new tube amplifier last year I've been toying around with the thought of buying a new electric guitar. I've got two inexpensive guitars currently (a Seagull acoustic, and a Fender Stratocaster electric) and resolved that the next guitar I bought would be of high-enough quality that I wouldn't end up disappointed by the sound or construction. In that span I've played close to two dozen guitars and figured I needed to shell out between $1200 and $1800 for the instrument that met my criteria.

So imagine my surprise when I fell in love with a guitar that was under $500! I was fooling around at Guitarville in Shoreline, WA with no intention of buying anything, when I picked up a Gretsch G-3161 Streamliner Historic Reissue. I knew it was the one after playing just a couple of chords! And it sounds even better at home than it did in the store! I cannot tell you how excited I am to be playing it at church on Sunday. I haven't been this excited about a purchase since I bought my wife's engagement ring over 8 years ago!

Coincidently, these two things have more in common than one might expect - I had to hide both from Mrs. Fishpimp until I knew how I was going to pay for them. Hiding a ring is way easier - I couldn't fit this in my sock drawer:

In the words of the Presidents of the United States of America: it's large, and lovely, and it smells just like a dream! When I go home I am completely torn about what to do after giving my wife a kiss- play with my adorable daughter (who is crawling now and getting cuter by the second) or go downstairs and play the new fiddle. Fortunately the little Fish Imp likes the rock & roll, so I can sit her on the floor and let her play with the patch cables while I rock out.

I just hope she doesn't think she's going to get to play it when she gets older.
